ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions of
General Contractors

How long have you been in business?

Jack Cannon has been a licensed General Contractor since 1983. The company, Lynstar though, was officially started in 1989. His General Contractors license number is 563773. He started Lynstar Enterprises in 1989. He has done literally hundreds of construction projects working mainly in and around Silicon Valley from San Mateo to San Jose, California. For more information check out our About Us page.

Are you licensed, bonded and insured?

Yes, we are licensed, bonded and insured. We got our contractor's license in 1983. Feel free to look up our license number 563773 on the Contractors State License Board site. We are also LEAD certified for working on homes older than 1978.

Do I need to pull permits?

Permits are required by state law for all construction projects. As the General Contractor, we typically take care of procuring the permits and any other requirements of the city and county you are in. If you already have permits or would prefer to procure them yourself, that is fine as well. If you have more questions regarding permits, I would be happy to discuss them with you.

Have you ever been sued?

No. We are proud of our excellent work record and have wonderful references and testimonials.

How do we contact you?

Our office phone number is 408.690.3851. For more contact information please see our Contacts page.

Do you use sub-contractors?

Yes. All of our sub-contractors our vetted, experienced, professional and have been working with us for many years. I pride myself on keeping most of them very busy.

Do I need to already have plans?

You do not need to already have plans. As a Design-Build contractor, we will take you through concept design all the way to working drawings. Depending on the size and complexity of your project, from start to finish we will be there to take care of all the dimensions of design and construction. If you need plans we have worked extensively with a couple of very good architectural companies where we can refer you. Should you already have plans, we are more than happy to work with those drawings and your chosen engineer.

What is your pricing?

Every construction project is different, as you can imagine. Once we have met and I see what your current situation is and what your goals are, we can give you an estimate.

How long before a project is started?

This varies widely depending on the size and scope of the project. Design can take as little as two weeks for a simple renovation or as long as 2 months to a year for a custom house. Next we submit the project to the local municipality for review. This can take from 3-9 months depending on permitting demand and the city where the construction will be done. Currently the average pre-construction phase is taking 8 to 12 weeks.

Are you easy to get a hold of?

Yes. We are in the office everyday and you should feel free to contact us any time.

Do you update us weekly?

We typically update our customers on at least a weekly basis if not multiple times a week. I keep the number of clients to a manageable number so I have better control and oversight. Since our customers usually like to actively participate in the design process and pick out all fixtures, finishes and appliances, they are always informed about their project's status.

Can you help with design and layout?

Absolutely. We are a Design-Build contractor and helping you with your dream design is our specialty.

How long will the construction take?

Since each project is unique, it is difficult to estimate how long your project will take. Feel free to Contact Us with the detail of your project and we can give you an estimate.

In what form do you like to get paid?

We accept the following payment methods:

  • Cash
  • Check
  • Bank-to-bank transfer
